ONE WORK

ONE WORK is a series of online events that focus closely on a single work.

LUX Scotland’s annual Weekend Residential brings together a small selected group of Scotland-based artists, curators, programmers and writers to explore some key questions in one lead artist’s practice through a programme of film screenings, group reading sessions, discussions and meals together over the course of one weekend.

International Collaborations

LUX Scotland works with a range of trusted international partners to deliver projects in Scotland and internationally.

MAXIMUM TILT

LUX Scotland and the University of St Andrews Department of Film Studies and Centre for Screen Cultures present a new festival during Midsummer 2026, programmed by Andrew Black and Anne-Marie Copestake.

We Contain Multitudes

We Contain Multitudes is a three-year collaborative project between Collective, DCA and LUX Scotland working towards creating systemic change in the Scottish arts sector for disabled visual artists and arts professionals.

Commissioning

LUX Scotland's commissions provide an opportunity for artists to create, develop or research new work.

Defiling Rain

Between 2024 and 2026 the University of Edinburgh Art Collection and LUX Scotland have beeen working with artist Jamie Crewe to support the development of an ambitious new artwork, and the shaping of an innovative production and partnership model.

Festival Collaborations

LUX Scotland works in collaboration with national and international festivals to present the work of Scotland-based artists and bring the work of international artists to a Scottish audience.

Education, Research & Placements

LUX Scotland works with academic institutions and partners across Scotland to support doctoral research, work placements and fellowships.

Moving Images Within Precarious Structures

Delivered in partnership with Fine Art Research at the Glasgow School of Art, Moving Images Within Precarious Structures is a year-long programme of episodes that start from the proposition that precarity is a condition of artists' moving image practice.

David Dale Gallery and LUX Scotland presents

David Dale Gallery and LUX Scotland presents is a series of screenings in collaboration with Scotland-based artists working with moving image.

Film London Jarman Award Touring Programme

Since 2019, LUX Scotland has hosted an artist from the Film London Jarman Award for a special screening and in-conversation in Glasgow.

The Flaherty Seminar

In Autumn 2025, LUX Scotland hosted three events as part of the Flaherty Film Seminar expanding on the 70th edition ONWARD!

Intentional Pauses (and Unforeseen Gaps)

Between Autumn 2024 and Spring 2025, we will deliver a peripatetic festival in partnership with Dundee Contemporary Arts, the Pier Arts Centre and ATLAS Arts.

Ka Mua Ka Muri – Walking Backwards Into the Future

Presented in collaboration with CIRCUIT, New Zealand, ‘Ka Mua Ka Muri – Walking Backwards Into the Future’ explores artistic strategies for sustainable futures through moving image practice.

Artists’ Moving Image Festival

LUX Scotland and Tramway’s Artists’ Moving Image Festival (AMIF) provides a platform for the discussion and presentation of artists’ moving image.

Margaret Tait Commission

The Margaret Tait Commission was a LUX Scotland commission delivered in partnership with Glasgow Film, backed by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland between 2010 and 2023.

Margaret Tait Residency

The Margaret Tait Residency was an opportunity for emerging artists working with film and moving image to develop their practice, delivered in partnership with the Pier Arts Centre, Orkney, with support from Creative Scotland in 2022 and 2023.

Aberdeen Programme

The LUX Scotland Aberdeen Programme supported early career Aberdeen-based artists and curators, funded by Aberdeen City Council Creative Funding.

Now & Next

Now & Next was a talent development scheme in partnership with Creative Scotland and BBC Scotland that ran from 2019 to 2022.

Hadithi Hadithi

A moving image exchange in collaboration with Ajabu Ajabu Audio Visual House, Tanzania, unfolding over May and June, 2022.

(Im)material worlds

'(Im)material worlds' was an artists’ moving image programme focusing on the environmental crisis from Global South and postcolonial perspectives, organised by Graiwoot Chulphongsathorn, Philippa Lovatt, LUX Scotland and CAMPLE LINE.

Shifting Tactics

Shifting Tactics was a series of free workshops programmed by Collective and LUX Scotland in direct response to the last two years of lockdowns.

Crossing the Line

Crossing the Line (2017–19) was a LUX Scotland guest-curated regular programme at Glasgow Film Theatre.

Experimental Film & Moving Image Residencies

The Experimental Film & Moving Image Residency at Cove Park (2018 – 21), in association with LUX Scotland and Alchemy Film & Arts, awarded up to four funded residencies each year.

LUX Critical Forum

The LUX Critical Forum (2014–21) was a series of peer-led monthly discussion groups hosted by LUX Scotland online and in-person across Scotland.

Margaret Tait 100

Margaret Tait 100 was a year-long centenary celebration of the work of Scotland’s pioneering filmmaker and poet Margaret Tait that ran from November 2018 to November 2019.

Where I Am

'Where I Am' was a bespoke national touring project in 2015 exploring the history of artists’ moving image in Scotland.

Goethe at LUX Residency

The Goethe at LUX Residency (2017–19) was a residency for artists based in Germany to work within the context and collection of LUX in London.
